The present invention relates to a method for making a bearing arrangement and a bearing arrangement made by this method.
In particular, the invention relates to a method for making a bearing arrangement and a bearing arrangement made by this method, in which it is possible to adjust the thickness of a layer of the bearing arrangement.
A bearing arrangement is known from U.S. Pat. No. 5,334,375 which relates to a ball joint for a vehicle steering column. The ball joint comprises a pin which is mounted in a support device by means of a ball and socket joint and, on the other hand, the shaft of the steering column is connected to the pin by means of a shoulder. The shoulder has a cylindrical surface which extends over a length of the pin. The shoulder is fitted into a cylindrical sleeve on the pin. Furthermore, a bearing arrangement is provided for connecting the pin to the shaft. This bearing arrangement is arranged in a bush and has a bearing cup, a bearing ring, a cylindrical guide element and a crimping ring. The bearing arrangement is mounted on the pin by means of an interference fit and by means of crimping. Crimping means that the cylindrical surface of the shoulder and the bearing ring cooperate and form a negative-shaped surface. This negative-shaped surface is the surface which cooperates with the bearing cup during mounting of the bearing arrangement.
A method for manufacturing an elastic bearing arrangement is known from U.S. Pat. No. 5,172,453. In this bearing arrangement, an opening is made in a plate. A bearing ring is placed in the opening and a bearing cup is pressed onto the bearing ring. The opening is filled with an elastomer. The bearing arrangement is mounted on a shaft, which is, for example, the shaft of a steering column. After mounting, the elastomer is cured. In order to adjust the axial length of the bearing arrangement, the bearing ring is made of a ring of elastomer. The ring is made of a different elastomer than the elastomer used for the bearing cup. The ring is mounted on the bearing cup and the elastomer in the opening is cured. After curing of the elastomer, the bearing arrangement is mounted on the shaft.Q:
